Black day for international cricket........!!

March 3, 2009 will always remain as a black day in the history of international cricket. Till yesterday, people used to believe sports are not a part of politics and will not fall victim to terrorism but today the extremists in Pakistan has proved it wrongly in a very brutal manner. Attack on innocent cricketers that too of a visiting team are an act that can’t be condemned in words. The footages that the news channels are running on television screens all the day-long speak about the cruelty and extremist mentality of those who carried on the brutal attacks today. Popular international cricket figures like Chaminda Vaas, Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara found themselves on the hospital beds instead of the dressing room of Gaddafi Stadium, but what exactly was their fault? Jayawardena suffered injury on ankle, Sangakkara suffered cut on shoulder, while Ajanthya Mendis was wounded badly on his back. Thilan Samaraweera suffered the worst but was fortunate to survive. These are just data but why were they punished like that? There is no answer.

According to news channels, a threat was there and it was decided that the visiting Lankan cricket team will be provided with highest level of security but the way things happened at the Liberty Chawk of Lahore today showed how weak the security system of Pakistan is. Even the glass of the Lankan team bus was not bullet proof. How can a nation, which has seen several attacks including that of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination and th recent blast at the Marriott Hotel take such a risk? Its simply unbelievable.

The Sri Lankan cricketers were really fortunate not to sustain much serious injuries but the trauma they have gone through was quite unfortunate. With today’s act, the terrorists have ensured that there will be no international cricket in Pakistan for a long long time. So who is going to be the ultimate looser? Pakistan was playing its first international series after a long gap of 14 months and today it ended with such a menace. No international cricket team will agree to tour Pakistan in the near future after today’s incident. Even ICC has declared it will reconsider its decision of allowing Pakistan to host matches in 2011 World Cup. Isn’t it a shame for a nation, which herself has been the world champion of cricket once? Surely it is but these terrorists, these extremist groups lack that sense. Today they have made it clear sports, cricketers, cultural artists do not make any difference to them. Their occupation is killing.

We at hollywoodentertainmentjobs.com condemn today’s brutal attack on players of Sri Lankan cricket team and wish them speedy recovery. And as cricket lovers we also wish that Pakistan does not disappears from the cricket atlas.
